Mommy Makeover FAQ

Mommy Makeover Chicago, ILOne of our most popular procedures at The Art of Plastic Surgery is our Mommy Makeover. We’d love to answer some of our most frequently asked questions regarding this procedure and shed some light on what takes place.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is an all-encompassing term plastic surgeons use to describe the body contouring procedures used to restore the body back (or enhance the body) to a pre-pregnancy state. This usually involved both the breasts and abdominal areas in a single operative procedure.

What does a Mommy Makeover include?

A mommy makeover usually includes a combination of these procedures:

  • Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)*
  • Liposuction
  • Breast Enhancement Surgery
  • Breast Lift Surgery
*If you are a patient with excess abdominal skin below the navel, you may opt for a mini-tummy tuck instead. Because a shorter incision is used, post-op recovery from a mini-tummy tuck is usually shorter than the full tummy tuck.

How soon after I give birth can I have a Mommy Makeover?

It typically takes about four to five months for a woman’s body to go back to normal after having a baby. This time period does not include breastfeeding, however. Before undergoing a mommy makeover, it’s recommended you lose as much weight as possible and wait two or three months after you stop breastfeeding.

Can I get a Mommy Makeover if I’m still planning on having more children?

That is up to you. If you want your kids to be close in age, you can decide if it’d be better to wait or not. The longer the distance between your kids, the better candidate you are for the surgery right now. If you’re most concerned about the ability to breastfeed after breast augmentation or a lift surgery, most women breastfeed without complications after undergoing those surgeries.

Can I have a Mommy Makeover if I don’t have children?

Absolutely! If a healthy diet and exercise have not helped you achieve your goals, a mommy makeover could be just the thing to get you there.
