Broad Band Light (BBL) Chicago, IL

What is BBL ?

Broad Band Light, using the Sciton laser, can be the most effective treatment for rosacea and skin redness. In addition, the photo thermal energy targets and diminishes many of the fine vessels that cause redness.

How many BBL treatments will I need?

The number of treatments depends on the individual, but in most cases, 3 to 6 treatments will provide patients with their desired results.

What areas can BBL treat?

The most common areas of the body typically treated with BBL are those that are exposed to the damaging effects of sunlight, such as the face, neck, back of the hands, chest and shoulders.

What happens during BBL treatment?

During the treatment your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. You may briefly feel a warm sensation that some describe as a “rubber band snap” sensation. This is the light being absorbed by the targeted areas. The procedure takes approximately 15 minutes to a half an hour, depending on the size of the area to be treated and the type of procedure performed. Dr. Wiener or our licensed Medical Aesthetician will discuss all of your options with you.

The procedure is gentle, non-invasive, and safe. Most patients experience some redness and swelling. The skin in the treated area will begin peeling in 2-3 days. It should resolve in a week.

In most cases, you are able to return to work, apply makeup, and resume most of your activities immediately. However, you will be sensitive to ultraviolet light so be sure to use a strong sunscreen and to cover treated areas when going outdoors.
