In Dr. Wiener’s Chicago practice, it is not liposuction, it is Liposelection (by Vaser). A relatively new and very different way to remove unwanted fat from almost any part the body that is as gentle as it is effective. This revolutionary new procedure offers exceptional results and rapid healing and is an alternative to the harsh techniques of traditional liposuction.
How does Liposuction (Vaser) work?
Liposuction (Vaser) uses state-of-the-art ultrasound technology to reshape your body. Since it is more tissue selective than traditional liposuction, damage to connective tissue is minimized. There is less bruising and swelling than traditional liposuction and recovery is faster. In addition, more fat can be removed with smoother results and more contraction of the overlying skin when compared to traditional liposuction.
Dr. Wiener performs this procedure in Chicago utilizing tiny incisions in inconspicuous spots. A solution is injected (tumescent approach) to facilitate the fat removal and minimize bruising. The ultrasonic treatment, Liposuction (Vaser), is then done. Liquefied fat is then removed. Typically treated areas range from the neck to the abdomen, flanks, back, hips, thighs, and even the knees and ankles. Local anesthesia alone is used for many of these procedures, and sedation or general anesthesia added for more extensive areas.
What can I expect with recovery from Liposuction (Vaser)?
After Liposuction (Vaser) surgery, patients should expect some degree of swelling with the possibility of mild bruising. The swelling and discomfort, however, are much less than with traditional liposuction techniques. A form-fitting surgical garment is worn for several weeks to minimize swelling and optimize contour. Post-operative discomfort is treated with oral pain medications. Amica, a natural anti-inflammatory is used to control inflammation. Patients are encouraged to walk as soon as possible, and most return to work within one week (depending on the area treated).
More strenuous activities can be resumed in 4 to 6 weeks after Liposuction (Vaser). In many cases, Dr. Wiener will combine Liposuction (Vaser) with other body contouring procedures such as an Abdominoplasty, Thigh Lifts, or breast shaping procedures for more dramatic overall results.
What areas can be treated by Liposuction (Vaser)?
Liposuction (Vaser) is also used extensively by Dr. Wiener as a “first stage procedure” for his Chicago patients with more significant amounts of excess fat that has been unresponsive to diet and exercise. In these larger patients, Liposuction (Vaser) is done to areas such as the abdomen, hips, flanks, and thighs in a first stage. Additional body contouring in the form of an Abdominoplasty or Thigh Lift to remove the excess skin is done in a second stage. The second stage is typically done three months after Liposuction (Vaser) surgery.
