Brow lift: What are the differences between methods?

Have you ever used your fingers or the lower palm of your hand to pull the skin above your eyebrows up and away from your eyes? If you see a more alert look to your face, you are seeing what a brow lift can accomplish. Our face is the first place to show aging as our skin loses elasticity, wrinkles form along our forehead and our brows begin to sag. This is when a brow lift can help restore a more youthful, alert look to your face. Here’s what you can expect from brow lift surgery and the differences between each option:

Dr. Weiner will tailor the technique to match your unique situation. If you have more sagging on the outer half of the brow, a temporal brow lift will be done. A central brow lift will address drooping of the inner brows.

There are two lift procedures. Depending on your concerns and needs, Dr. Weiner will either perform a coronal brow lift or endoscopic brow lift.

• An endoscopic brow lift is the preferred method of surgery because it offers less scarring and easier recovery. With this method, 3-5 short incisions are made within the hairline, which means scarring will be easily hidden. An endoscope, which is a tiny, thin instrument with a camera on the end, will be inserted through one of the incisions to provide a great view of the areas that need to be addressed. Small tools are inserted through the other small incisions to manipulate the skin and muscles to achieve a tighter, lifted look.

• A coronal brow lift is a traditional or “full” brow lift. This procedure consists of making one long line from ear to ear across the top of the head within the hairline. Think of it as the shape of a pair of headphones. The forehead skin is lifted away so that underlying muscles can be trimmed and repositioned, and the eyebrows lifted if necessary. Excess skin is trimmed before the skin is then re-draped and the long incision is closed.

A brow lift is a great way to achieve a more youthful, alert look to your face, and can be combined with many other procedures for maximum, lasting results. Schedule your consultation with Dr. Wiener by calling (773) 763-3990 today.
