3 Ways to Protect Your Skin This Winter

Winter is deemed as “the most wonderful time of the year” by many. However, by your skin, it is considered to be the harshest time of the year. Cold temperatures, dry air, and harsh wind can leave your skin looking red and feeling damaged like never before. In order to properly protect your skin this winter, try these three tips.gw1

1. Wear Sunscreen

It might sound ridiculous to most people but wearing sunscreen everyday— no matter if it’s snowing or sunny out— is crucial to keeping your skin safe from the sun’s harsh rays. Even by sitting in the car, you can get some sun damage to your skin that is exposed and not covered up by clothes. As a good rule, get into the habit of applying a moisturizer with an SPF in it every morning before you get out the door— that way you will never leave the house without feeling protected from the sun again.

2. Cover Up

Things like wind burn can cause your skin to feel raw and sensitive. If you live in a really windy area or if you are participating in snow sports on a windy day, make sure to cover up as much as possible. Try to wear a hat, gloves, a coat, pants, boots, and even a face mask in order to ensure that you don’t get wind burned  in any way.

3. Moisturize

Winter can cause your skin— your hands especially—- to get chapped and even bleed sometimes. In order to prevent this from happening, try to keep your skin moisturized throughout the winter season. Simply keep a small moisturizing lotion in your car or bag and apply a small amount to your hands after you wash them or just when you notice that they are starting to feel dry.

If your hands are especially chapped, try putting some vaseline on top of them. Vaseline is a great moisturizer and will help you to keep out any dryness that heads your way.
